Glenmorangie’s “The Tale of the Forest” whisky launch called for a celebration as unique as the product itself. Working with PIM, a renowned events agency, I had the opportunity to turn an already stunning visual concept into an unforgettable experience. Tasked with elevating the work of celebrated illustrator Pomme Chan, whose intricate designs adorned the bottle and branding, I was challenged to create a projection mapping installation that would immerse guests in the mystical world behind the whisky’s story.
The project began with PIM’s request to bring Pomme Chan’s evocative forest-inspired illustrations to life at an exclusive launch event in Sydney. With the whisky’s narrative rooted in nature and craftsmanship, it was clear that the visual execution had to mirror this depth. My role was to translate these static, beautiful artworks into an animated spectacle that would transport attendees into the heart of Glenmorangie’s tale, while perfectly aligning with the brand's sophisticated identity.
Bringing to life Pomme Chan's Amazing Artwork
The primary challenge was to create an immersive projection mapping experience that would bring Pomme Chan's enchanting illustrations to life. The goal was to complement the atmospheric setting of the event and captivate the audience, thereby elevating the launch of Glenmorangie's “The Tale of the Forest.”
To meet this challenge, I utilised advanced parallax techniques and motion design. This approach allowed Pomme Chan’s artwork to transform into a dynamic and immersive display, giving the illusion of depth and movement. The projection was synchronised with an audio track that echoed the ambiance of a forest, enhancing the overall sensory experience. This integration of visual and auditory elements was key to creating an enchanting atmosphere that truly reflected the spirit of Glenmorangie's new edition.
The result was a carefully crafted projection mapping experience that seamlessly combined Pomme Chan’s artistic style with dynamic motion and lighting. The illustrations became part of a living, breathing forest, with leaves swaying, creatures emerging, and colours shifting to reflect the whisky’s rich and layered character. Besides the product itself, the immersive display became the centrepiece of the evening, transforming the venue into an enchanted space that invited guests to explore and savour the story behind the product.
The impact of the projection mapping was profound, amplifying the launch’s sense of occasion and firmly positioning Glenmorangie’s limited edition as a masterpiece of creativity and storytelling. The collaboration between PIM, Pomme Chan, and my technical expertise resulted in a truly unique activation that left a lasting impression on guests and underscored Glenmorangie’s reputation for innovation and artistry.
